Signs of Neglect and Abuse

Denver, Colorado, Elder Abuse and Neglect Lawyer

It is a common misconception that hip fractures, bedsores, dehydration, and other injuries are normal for elderly persons. In fact, the very reason for placing an elderly person in the care of a nursing home or arranging home health care assistance is to protect the vulnerable person from such injuries. The nursing staff is responsible for evaluating the patient's level of risk and designing a plan to prevent accidents and injuries.

Do not overlook clear signs of elder abuse and neglect

As an attorney I devote much of my practice to protecting the rights of seniors who are subjected to elder abuse or neglect in their homes or as nursing home residents. An injury is a clear sign that elder abuse or neglect may be involved, and a professional investigation should be considered. If you observe injuries or behaviors such as the following, I urge you to contact my Denver, Colorado, office and find out what measures to take.

  • Bed sore (also known as decubitus ulcer or pressure sore)
  • Dehydration
  • Malnutrition
  • Weight loss
  • Burns or cuts
  • Broken hip or other fracture
  • Bruises
  • Poor incontinence hygiene
  • Wandering (elopement)
  • Depression, nervousness
  • Medication errors
  • Over sedation
  • Marks indicating the use of physical restraints
  • Untreated illness
  • Lack of appropriate activity

Whether the elderly person complains of, or you suspect, emotional or physical abuse, I will work with professional investigators to uncover the truth. If the evidence indicates elder abuse or neglect was the cause of the injury, I will work to recover fair compensation on behalf of the victim.
