Nursing Home Injuries

Denver, Colorado, Nursing Home Injury Lawyer

Rather than being accepted as normal, a bedsore, hip fracture, or other nursing home injury should be carefully investigated if there is any possibility it was the result of nursing home negligence. As an attorney committed to the rights of the elderly, I have seen cases where nursing home administrators clearly attempted to conceal evidence of abuse or neglect.

Types of nursing home injuries

Nursing home injuries include those resulting from physical, emotional, and verbal abuse and neglect. The following are examples:

  • Bedsores-a preventable injury: Bedsores, also known as pressure sores and decubitus ulcers, result from causes including dehydration, poor hygiene, or failure to reposition a bedridden patient frequently-all forms of negligence.
  • Broken hips and other fractures: It is the responsibility of the nursing home administration to take measures to prevent falls, the primary cause of fractures. A hip fracture may, in an elderly person, lead to permanent loss of mobility or death.
  • Emotional abuse: Verbal abuse, threats, and social isolation can lead to depression and anxiety.
  • Assaults and physical abuse: Slapping, hitting, pushing choking-vulnerable residents may be subjected to violent attacks by staff or nursing home residents.
  • Injuries resulting from neglect: Over sedation, medication errors, bedsores, dehydration, malnutrition, weight loss, open sores resulting from poor hygiene, apathy resulting from a failure to provide an appropriate social program-understaffing and poor supervision of nurses and aides lead to neglect, a common form of elder abuse.

Was the nursing home injury the result of neglect or abuse?

As a friend or relative of the nursing home resident, you are not expected to have the necessary experience to identify elder abuse or the resources to conduct a thorough investigation. For that reason, if you feel uneasy about the safety or health of a nursing home resident, it is important to speak to a lawyer with experience in nursing home injury claims.

If you would like a case evaluation, please contact my Denver office and arrange a free consultation. If indicated, I will call on professional investigators to assist in uncovering the truth. I serve clients throughout Colorado.
